National Infrastructure Commission launches Better Delivery: the challenge for freight report

The National Infrastructure Commission has launched its report on the future of the UK’s freight system, Better Delivery. Fiona Jenkins, Associate at Steer, has been seconded to the National Infrastructure Commission to support the study, which looked into how the freight system could be made more efficient over the next 30 years.

The Commission is recommending:

  • Road and rail freight to be zero emissions by 2050, including a ban on the sale of new diesel HGVs by 2040.
  • Better land use planning for freight, to allow operators to have efficient, low congestion operations.
  • A new partnership for freight for collaborative working on cross-cutting and long-term issues, in the form of a new Freight Leadership Council.

The report is available on the National Infrastructure Commission website.
